Frequently asked questions

What is a sound bath?
Sound influences both our emotional and physical states. It can help us relax, improve focus, and even support healing processes in the body by affecting our brainwaves and nervous system.
A sound bath is not a literal bath, there’s no water involved, just sound. A sound bath is an experience where participants are “bathed” in sound waves from instruments like singing bowls, gongs, chimes, etc. The sequences played can be tailored to individual needs to achieve relaxation as well as physical or psychological release.
what is the Purpose and benefits of a sound bath?
Sound baths can be designed to promote deep relaxation, stress relief, and inner balance. Reported benefits include: Reduced anxiety & tension; Improved sleep; Enhanced mood; Support for emotional release; Mental clarity and focus.
How does it work? why do sound baths feel so calming?
Sound frequencies can help to reach an altered state of consciousness by shifting brainwaves from beta (alert) into alpha (relaxed), theta (meditative), and sometimes delta (deep sleep) states. In addition, vibrational energy may stimulate the body’s natural healing processes and calm the nervous system. This can be enhanced in bowl-to-body experiences where the bowl is played directly on top of the body.

The calming effect comes from the way sound interacts with our brainwaves and nervous system. As our brain shifts into more relaxed frequencies, we enter a state of deep rest and restoration.

During a sound bath, the brain may also release natural chemicals like oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine. These "feel-good" neurochemicals help reduce stress, elevate mood, support the immune system, and promote emotional wellbeing.
who is it for?
It is suitable for all ages and experience levels with no special skills or flexibility required. Generally a sound bath can be beneficial for those dealing with stress, burnout, insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety, or those simply seeking stillness.
what is the experience like?
An RGP Sound bath typically lasts between 45 to 75 minutes. Participants usually lie down on the floor, on yoga mats, with their eyes closed and ideally with an eye pillow covering their eyes. The session includes a gentle introduction and time to integrate and reflect at the end. For bowl-to-body experiences we may use a therapy treatment table.
How to prepare for a session
You will benefit most of the if you avoid eating a big or heavy meal two hours before, try to avoid caffeine on the day of the class and wear comfortable clothing for the session.
what to bring
A yoga mat or something to lie on; a blanket (as your body relaxes, you can get cold during the sound bath); a pillow/cushion for your head and to provide support beneath your knees; an eye mask or pillow; comfortable clothing to help you stay warm and relaxed. In summary, anything that helps you to be comfortable and relaxed.
what Instruments do you use?
RGP Sound baths follow the BAST method and can include any of the following instruments: crystal singing bowls; himalayan singing bowls; gongs and therapeutic percussion (e.g. chimes, rainstick, etc)

Sound is energy in motion, traveling in waves through air, water, or solids. The Instruments we use create deep, resonant vibrations that move in waves, affecting the space and people around them.
what happens After the sound bath?
After a sound bath, you may feel deeply relaxed or emotionally open. It’s important to give yourself time to gently return to everyday awareness. After the sound bath you should drink water to stay hydrated, move slowly and avoid rushing back into busy activities; spend a few moments in stillness or nature if possible; journaling or gentle stretching can help integrate the experience. If you need to drive, take time to ground yourself and make sure you feel fully present before sitting behind the wheel.
safety
Sound baths are non-invasive and generally safe for most people. Those with sound sensitivity, epilepsy, or certain mental health conditions should consult with a professional before attending. Please check our contraindications and advice section prior to booking your sound bath.
is there science?
While research is ongoing, and much of the available evidence is anecdotal, studies have linked sound meditation to lower cortisol levels, reduced heart rate, and enhanced mood. Sound therapy is used in some clinical and therapeutic settings as part of integrative healing approaches.
